Point of Sale
POS system development
A point-of-sale system earns its value by fitting how the shop actually runs. We design functions around your process instead of asking the shop to adapt to a vendor's assumptions.
What does the system cover?
Everything from front-counter sales to back-office management, selected to match the size and needs of the shop. Not all of it has to be switched on.
- Sales and checkout
- Item scanning, multiple payment methods, discount and promotion rules, returns, daily reconciliation.
- Inventory
- Stock tracking, goods receipt, low-stock alerts, stocktaking.
- Membership and history
- Member records, purchase history, points or stored-value schemes designed around your actual programme.
- Reporting
- Revenue, item performance and time-of-day analysis, output in a form you can act on.
- Multi-branch
- Branch permissions, cross-branch stock lookup, consolidated reporting.
- Hardware
- Receipt printers, cash drawers, barcode scanners and customer displays, connected and tested.
Who is it for?
Mainly startups and small to medium shops, particularly where the process has specific requirements that packaged systems cannot fully accommodate.
Frequently asked questions
- Off-the-shelf POS or custom development?
- If your process roughly matches what an off-the-shelf system assumes, the packaged option is usually faster and cheaper. Custom development earns its keep when the process cannot bend to the system — unusual pricing rules, integration with existing systems, or a missing critical function. We review the actual process before advising, including advising you to buy off the shelf.
- What devices does it run on?
- Our systems support desktop, tablet and mobile. The right configuration depends on the environment: fixed counter, roaming order-taking, or both, which affects interface design and hardware choice.
- Can it connect to our existing membership or inventory system?
- It depends on whether that system exposes an interface. With an API or data export, integration is usually possible; with a closed system we assess alternatives. This gets confirmed before the project starts, not discovered midway.
- Is there support after launch?
- Yes. The early weeks usually expose gaps between designed and actual use, and adjusting for those is part of the work. Long-term maintenance terms are set out at quotation.
